Vioxx Side Affects
Vioxx is now widely considered one of the most dangerous prescription drugs in the country. Several side effects associated with Vioxx usage have led Merck to recall one of its most popular and widely used drugs on the market. In fact, the American Medical Association has linked Vioxx to several life threatening conditions in patients from across the United States. These side effects include heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and even death.
In addition to the above listed side effects other serious side effects include severe liver problems that were found to have occurred in patients that were taking NSAIDs. The symptoms of the liver problems were flu-like in nature and included nausea, tiredness, itching and tenderness in the abdomen. Vioxx was also found to cause serious kidney problems including acute kidney failure and the worsening of chronic kidney failure. Certain allergic reactions have also been associated with Vioxx use. These reactions varied but were most commonly associated with the swelling of the face, tongue, lips or throat, which often caused patients to have difficulty breathing. Serious stomach problems such as internal bleeding have also been associated with frequent Vioxx use. This internal intestinal bleeding has the potential to be serious in nature and can lead to hospitalizations and in severe cases death.
The American Medical Association found that more common but less life threatening side effects of Vioxx included respiratory infections, dizziness, headaches, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn, high blood pressure and swelling of the feet or legs. These symptoms, while not life threatening, are tell tale signs that your body may react negatively to the consumption of Vioxx. If you are experiencing any of these lesser symptoms, you should consult a qualified doctor to ascertain the best way to proceed medically.
